Heavy-Duty Stainless Steel Eyelet for Large Reinforced Openings
This stainless steel eyelet with metal washer is designed for large reinforced openings in tarps, truck covers, tents, awnings, shade systems, curtains, banners, vinyl prints, heavy canvas, leather and technical textiles. It is used where ropes, hooks, straps, tensioning cords or fixing accessories pass through the material.
The metal washer supports the back side of the material and helps the eyelet grip a wider surface. Correct installation is especially important in heavy-duty outdoor products because an incorrect hole size, weak press force or wrong die can cause rotation, tearing or poor washer closure.

Installation Requires Enough Force
This product is much larger and harder to set than small garment eyelets. On thick tarpaulin, multi-layer canvas, stiff technical textile or leather, a small hand press may not generate enough force to close the stainless steel eyelet and metal washer evenly.
For better results, use a compatible 40 mm / 1.57 in Eyelet Setting Die. If a clean material hole is needed before setting, use a 40 mm / 1.57 in Eyelet Punching Die or another suitable hole preparation tool. For applications where a small hand press is not powerful enough, use a manual impact press, lever press, motorized press or professional grommet setting machine.
A hand-striking setting tool may be selected for small batches or field-type applications when the correct size is available. For production work, however, a stronger press and correct die usually provide a more repeatable and secure clinch.
Setting Die and Punching Die Are Not the Same
A punching die prepares the material hole before installation. A setting die closes the eyelet and washer after the hole is ready. These two tools have different functions and both may be required depending on the material and production method.
The hole must be matched to the eyelet capsule, washer opening and fabric behavior. A hole that is too small may prevent proper seating, while a hole that is too large may weaken the grip and allow the eyelet to rotate or pull out under load.
Common Questions Before Ordering
What is the inner diameter?
The eyelet capsule inner diameter is 40.5 mm / 1.59 in.
Is the metal washer included?
Yes. The product is sold as eyelet and metal washer sets in a 25-piece pack.
Can it be installed with a small hand press?
Some thin materials may be possible after testing, but this large stainless steel eyelet may require more force than a small hand press can provide. A manual impact press, stronger professional machine or suitable hand-striking setting tool should be considered.
Which die is required?
A 40 mm / 1.57 in eyelet setting die is required for installation. A separate punching die or hole cutter may be required for preparing the material hole.
Can it be used for tarps, tents and awnings?
Yes. It is suitable for tarps, truck covers, tents, awnings, curtains, banners, vinyl prints, heavy canvas, technical textiles and leather after testing material thickness and setting force.
Can a hand-striking tool be used?
It can be considered for small quantities or field applications when the correct tool size is available. For consistent production, a stronger press is usually safer.
Is stainless steel suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, it provides better resistance to standard outdoor moisture and rain. Long exposure to sea salt, chlorides or harsh chemicals may still create corrosion risk.
