What Are Elastic Bands and Waistbands?

Elastic bands are flexible textile components used to create stretch, recovery, gathering, support or adjustable fit. Depending on their construction, they may be sewn directly onto fabric, enclosed inside a casing, threaded through a narrow channel or combined with adjustment hardware.

Woven Elastic Bands

Woven elastic is a flat elastic band used across wider textile areas. Depending on the individual product and garment design, it may be enclosed inside a waistband casing or sewn into waist, cuff and leg-opening sections.

The elastic width should be selected according to the completed internal height of the fabric casing. An elastic that is too wide may fold or become difficult to insert. An elastic that is too narrow may twist, rotate or fail to fill the intended waistband area.

A wider elastic is not automatically stronger or tighter. Construction, thickness, elastic yarn, stretch behaviour and the finished garment structure all affect performance.

Round Braided Elastic Cord

Round braided elastic has a circular or cord-like profile that can pass through narrow textile channels, eyelets, cord locks and cord ends. It may be used in hoods, bags, masks, sportswear, childrenswear and gathered textile products.

Diameter is the main dimensional specification for round elastic. It must remain compatible with every part of the route, including the fabric channel, eyelet, cord lock and terminal cord end.

Nominal diameter does not guarantee compatibility. Braid density, surface texture, softness and compressibility may change the way the elastic performs inside an eyelet or cord-lock mechanism.

Bra Strap Elastics

Bra strap elastic is a narrow flat elastic used to create adjustable straps in bras, bralettes, bustiers, camisoles, nightwear and related lingerie products.

The E-Buttons bra elastic range uses a 10 mm / 0.39 in width class. The elastic should be combined with rings, sliders, hooks and connectors that have a verified compatible internal opening.

The actual elastic thickness and edge construction may also affect movement through adjustment hardware. Likewise, different components described as 10 mm / 0.39 in may not have identical internal openings.
