28L Fabric-Coverable Snap Fastener
This fabric-coverable snap fastener allows the visible closure surface to be prepared with the fabric selected for a garment, bag or textile product. Covering the aluminium upper cap creates a coordinated closure detail instead of leaving an exposed metal cap on the finished product.
Once covered, the upper cap has an approximate visible diameter of 17 mm / 0.669 in. The working closure uses a 54-system fastening construction. The covered-cap assembly consists of an aluminium cap, a brass cap back and a plastic support washer. The socket, stud and post that form the opening and closing mechanism are made of stainless metal.
The package does not contain 100 caps only. It contains all components required to prepare 100 fabric-covered caps and 100 complete working snap fastener sets. As each complete set contains six components, the package includes 600 individual components in total.
Lower-component finish: Select the required finish for the stainless socket, stud and post from the available colour options. This selection applies to the three lower fastening components. It does not determine the appearance of the aluminium cap because the cap is intended to be covered with the customer’s fabric.

When Should This Snap Be Selected?
- When the visible snap cap needs to match the fabric of the product,
- When an approximately 17 mm / 0.669 in fabric-covered closure is required,
- When a covered surface is preferred instead of an exposed metal cap,
- For jackets, coats, waistcoats, shirts, dresses and skirts,
- For bags, textile accessories and decorative projects,
- For boutique production, sampling and customised collections,
- When 100 complete snap fastener sets are required.
Three Separate Dies Are Required
Preparing and installing this snap fastener involves three separate production stages. The fabric must first be cut to the correct diameter, the aluminium cap must then be covered, and the completed snap must finally be installed on the textile product.
- 28L fabric cutting die: Cuts a 28 mm / 1.102 in circular fabric piece for covering the cap.
- 28L cap covering die: Forms the fabric around the aluminium cap and joins it with the plastic support washer and brass cap back.
- 17 mm / 0.669 in 54-system snap setting die: Installs the completed fabric-covered cap and the three stainless lower components onto the textile product.
The cap covering die does not install the completed snap onto the textile product. It prepares the fabric-covered upper cap only. A separate 17 mm / 0.669 in 54-system snap setting die is required for the final installation.
Difference From the 24L Model
This 28L model produces an approximately 17 mm / 0.669 in finished cap and requires a 28 mm / 1.102 in fabric circle. The smaller 24L model produces an approximately 15 mm / 0.591 in finished cap and uses different cutting and covering dies.
| Operation | Correct die for this product |
|---|
| Cutting the fabric | 28L cutting die producing a 28 mm / 1.102 in fabric circle |
| Covering the cap | 28L covering die for the 17 mm / 0.669 in finished cap |
| Installing the snap | 17 mm / 0.669 in 54-system snap setting die |
Do not use the 24L dies for this product. The 24L cutting and covering dies belong to the smaller 15 mm / 0.591 in model.
Compatible Presses and Machines
With a matching die connection, the fabric cutting die, cap covering die and snap setting die can be used with the following equipment:
The press does not replace the individual dies. The relevant cutting, covering or setting die must be fitted for each operation. Compare the die thread with the machine connection before ordering.
Application Sequence
- Cut the selected covering fabric into a 28 mm / 1.102 in circle with the matching 28L cutting die.
- If patterned fabric is used, centre the required part of the pattern before cutting.
- Centre the cut fabric over the aluminium cap.
- Position the aluminium cap, fabric, plastic washer and brass cap back in the covering die in their correct orientations.
- Use the 28L covering die to prepare the completed fabric-covered cap.
- Position the fabric-covered cap, socket, stud and post correctly on the textile product.
- Complete the installation with the 17 mm / 0.669 in 54-system snap setting die.
- Test opening, closing and fabric retention before beginning production.
Selection and Application Warnings
- This product uses a 54-system fastening construction. Dies made for other snap constructions must not be assumed compatible.
- Do not select the setting die by the 17 mm / 0.669 in cap diameter alone. The cap profile and lower fastening components must also match.
- The 24L cutting and covering dies are not suitable for this 28L model.
- Very thick or rigid fabrics may prevent the aluminium cap edge from closing correctly.
- Thin, elastic or loosely woven fabrics may require reinforcement.
- Patterned fabrics should be centred before cutting.
- Begin with low press force and increase it gradually after examining the sample.
- Confirm the selected finish of the three lower components before ordering.
- Complete a trial assembly with the actual production fabric before starting a full production run.
