24L Fabric Cutting Die for 15 mm / 0.59 in Cover Buttons
This Fabric Cutting Die prepares the fabric circles used for 24L cover buttons. It cuts a 24 mm / 0.94 in circular fabric piece, which is then used to cover a button with a finished visible diameter of 15 mm / 0.59 in.
The larger fabric circle is intentional. It gives the material enough allowance to wrap around the button edge and fold inward toward the reverse side during covering.
24 mm Fabric Circle and 15 mm Finished Button
The fabric cutting diameter is 24 mm / 0.94 in, while the finished button diameter is 15 mm / 0.59 in. This creates a total diameter difference of 9 mm / 0.35 in.
When that difference is distributed around the circular button, it leaves approximately 4.5 mm / 0.18 in of fabric allowance per edge. This material folds inward during covering and helps create a cleaner wrapped edge.
- Fabric cutting diameter: 24 mm / 0.94 in
- Finished button diameter: 15 mm / 0.59 in
- Total diameter difference: 9 mm / 0.35 in
- Approximate fold-in allowance per edge: 4.5 mm / 0.18 in
What This Die Does
This tool cuts a 24 mm circular fabric piece. When used on stacked fabric, it creates the circular cut-out and separates the fabric disc used for button covering.
It does not cover fabric around a button shell. Use a separate Fabric Button Covering Die for the covering stage.
Use in Fabric-Covered Snap Applications
When the snap-cap geometry is compatible, this die can prepare the fabric circle used for a fabric-covered snap cap. The fabric-cutting stage is separate from both cap covering and final snap assembly.
After cutting, the cap needs a compatible covering die. Final cap-and-socket installation requires a separate Snap Setting Die matched to the selected snap system.
Fabric Selection and Production Control
Test thick, stretch, velvet, satin, textured, slippery and patterned fabrics before repeat production. The fabric type affects cutting quality and how the 4.5 mm / 0.18 in allowance folds around the reverse side of the button.
Use the same fabric type, button shell, cutting die, covering die and press setting during sample work to achieve more repeatable production results.
Press Compatibility
Use this die with a physically compatible hand press or fabric-covering machine. Check the die holder, press connection and pressing surface before use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size fabric circle does this die cut?
It cuts circular fabric pieces with a 24 mm / 0.94 in diameter.
What cover button size is it intended for?
It is intended for 24L cover buttons with a finished visible diameter of 15 mm / 0.59 in.
Why is the fabric circle larger than the button?
The extra fabric creates the allowance needed to fold inward around the button edge during covering.
How much fabric allowance is left around the button?
The total difference is 9 mm / 0.35 in, which leaves approximately 4.5 mm / 0.18 in of allowance on each edge.
Does this die cover the button with fabric?
No. It cuts the fabric circle only. A separate Fabric Button Covering Die is needed to form the fabric around the shell.
Can it prepare fabric for a fabric-covered snap cap?
Yes, when the cap geometry is confirmed to use the same cutting requirement. Final covering and snap assembly still require separate compatible tools.
