What Is an Eyelet or Grommet Kit?

An eyelet or grommet kit is a prepared package containing selected components for making an installation hole and setting a compatible eyelet with the required washer or backing part.

Some kits contain only punching and setting dies. Other versions include a manual hand press. Trial and complete kits may also contain eyelets, plastic washers, metal washers or other consumable components stated on the individual product page.

How Are the Different Kit Types Organised?

Kit Type Typical Contents When to Select It
Setting-tool kits Setting dies for several sizes and a hammer-operated hand tool When eyelets are already available and only setting equipment is required
Starter die sets One size-specific punching die and one setting die For users who already own a compatible manual press
Manual-press starter sets Manual hand press, punching die and setting die For users who do not already have a compatible press
Trial kits Press, dies, eyelets and the washer options stated on the product page For sample preparation and measurement or washer comparison
Professional die sets Hardened, heat-treated punching and setting dies For repeated pleated-screen workshop applications
Complete professional kits Manual press, professional dies and higher quantities of consumable components For workshops starting regular production with several sizes
Application-specific kits Eyelets and tools selected for tarpaulins, banners, curtains, bags or leather For a defined product or material group

Pleated Screen and Pleated Blind Eyelet Kits

Pleated screen eyelet kits are prepared for making holes and setting compatible metal eyelets at cord passage points on the PVC strips used in pleated insect screen and pleated blind systems.

The category includes starter die sets, professional die sets, manual-press starter sets and trial kits for three principal size classes.

Eyelet Class Prepared Hole Available Kit Types
4–4.5 mm / 0.157–0.177 in 4.5 mm / 0.177 in round hole Starter, manual-press and professional die sets
5–5.5 mm / 0.197–0.217 in 5 mm / 0.197 in round hole Starter, manual-press, trial and professional sets
6–6.5 mm / 0.236–0.256 in 6 mm / 0.236 in round hole Starter, manual-press, trial and professional sets

The eyelet size class and the punched-hole diameter are separate technical measurements. For example, an eyelet in the 5–5.5 mm / 0.197–0.217 in class uses a die that prepares a 5 mm / 0.197 in hole. The actual inner diameter, outer diameter, barrel height and washer construction must also be checked.

Starter, Trial and Professional Pleated-Screen Sets

Starter sets

A starter set contains the basic dies required for one punching and setting application. Some starter versions include a manual hand press, while others contain only the two dies.

Trial kits

A trial kit adds the eyelets and washer options stated on the product page to the press and dies. These kits allow samples to be prepared on the actual PVC strip before additional consumable quantities are selected.

Professional die sets

Professional pleated-screen sets use specially hardened, heat-treated punching and setting dies. The press, eyelets and washers may be included or excluded depending on the selected kit.

The word “professional” does not confirm that every component is included. Review the individual product page to check the press, die and consumable contents.

Tarpaulin, Banner and Technical Textile Kits

Kits for tarpaulins, awnings, tents, banners and printed display materials may contain larger eyelets, hammer-operated setting tools or a manual hand press.

The eyelet should be selected according to the material thickness, prepared-hole diameter, barrel height and die compatibility rather than the application name alone.

Curtain and Decoration Eyelet Kits

Curtain and decoration kits are prepared for larger visible eyelets used on curtains, drapery and decorative textile panels. Depending on the selected product, the kit may contain eyelets, plastic washers, a punching die, a setting die and a manual hand press.

Bag, Cover, Leather and Footwear Kits

Bag, cover, belt, boot, shoe and leather accessory applications generally use smaller or medium-size eyelets. The material thickness and setting-tool structure must be checked together with the metric and imperial eyelet measurements.

Should You Choose a Press-Included or Press-Free Kit?

Select a press-included kit when a compatible manual hand press is not already available. These kits combine the press with the dies stated in the package contents.

When a compatible press is already available, a punching-and-setting die set may be more suitable. The die connection and press fitting must still match.

A hammer-operated setting tool is not the same as a manual hand press. A hand tool is struck with a suitable hammer, while a manual hand press is a bench-mounted, lever-operated machine.

Are the Punching Die and Setting Die the Same Tool?

No. A punching die prepares the opening through which the eyelet barrel passes. A setting die closes the eyelet over the selected washer or backing component.

Punching and setting are separate operations. A multi-size kit should contain the corresponding punching and setting dies for every supported eyelet size.

Plastic and Metal Washer Options

Some pleated-screen kits include both plastic and metal washers. These are alternative backing components and are not installed together behind the same eyelet.

Check the product page to confirm which washer types are included and the quantity supplied for each size.

What Should Be Checked Before Ordering?

  • The intended application: pleated screen, tarpaulin, banner, curtain, bag or leather
  • The metric and imperial eyelet measurements
  • The actual inner diameter, outer diameter and barrel height
  • The hole diameter prepared by the punching die
  • The compatibility of the setting die with the eyelet and washer
  • Whether a manual press or hammer-operated tool is included
  • The quantity of eyelets and washers
  • Whether the eyelet has a standard or extended barrel

Eyelets listed in the same nominal measurement class may not fit the same setting die. Outer diameter, barrel height, face profile and washer construction must also match.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every eyelet and grommet kit include eyelets?

No. Some kits contain only a punching die, setting die or hammer-operated application tools. Check the individual product page for the eyelet and washer contents.

Does every kit include a manual hand press?

No. The category includes press-included kits, die-only sets and hammer-operated tool sets without a press.

Which pleated-screen eyelet sizes are available?

The category includes sets for 4–4.5 mm / 0.157–0.177 in, 5–5.5 mm / 0.197–0.217 in and 6–6.5 mm / 0.236–0.256 in eyelet classes.

What is the difference between starter and professional die sets?

Professional pleated-screen sets use specially hardened, heat-treated punching and setting dies. The inclusion of the press and consumable components depends on the selected product.

Can punching and setting be completed with one die?

No. One die prepares the hole, while a separate setting die closes the eyelet over the selected washer.

Are plastic and metal washers installed together?

No. They are alternative backing components, and only one selected washer type is used for each installation.

Which kit should I select if I already own a manual press?

A press-free punching and setting die set may be suitable when the existing press connection is compatible. The eyelet measurements and die fitting must be checked together.
